Despite the name, it's not a soup at all — it's a dense, baked cornbread with cheese and onion, a mix-up local legend traces to a cook whose soup batter came out too thick to serve as liquid.

A thick, moist cake of cornmeal, cheese, onion, and eggs, baked in large trays and sold by the slice at market stalls and roadside food stands across Misiones. It's eaten as a snack or side, never as a liquid soup.

Why it's made this way: Misiones' proximity to Paraguay across the border river brought this cornmeal specialty into the province's own street-food repertoire alongside chipá.
