Rodenbach ages its beer inside 150-year-old oak vats so large that each one holds roughly 8,000 gallons — more like a wine cellar than a brewery.
Rodenbach is a Flemish red ale with a sweet-and-sour, almost wine-like character, brewed in Roeselare since the 1820s. It's poured with a reddish-brown hue that's instantly recognizable against Belgium's paler beer styles.
Why it's made this way: The brewery pioneered blending young and long-aged beer after its founder studied English porter-making, creating a sour style now recognized as uniquely West Flemish.
