It's strained through a cloth bag so often that it's nicknamed 'silk stocking' tea, filtering the leaves until the brew turns silky smooth.

Hong Kong milk tea is a strong black tea blend brewed and strained through a cloth filter, then mixed with evaporated or condensed milk for a rich, slightly bitter finish. It's the standard order at every cha chaan teng (tea restaurant) across the city, often paired with pineapple buns.

Why it's made this way: Blending British tea culture with Cantonese cafe habits, Hong Kong milk tea became a defining symbol of the city's colonial-era food fusion.
