Coffee from the slopes of the Santa Ana volcano is grown at high enough elevation that some farms there have placed among the top-scoring lots in El Salvador's national Cup of Excellence competitions.
Bright, full-bodied coffee grown on the volcanic slopes surrounding Santa Ana, brewed strong and sold hot from street carts and market stalls in small cups, a fixture outside the city's colonial theater and cathedral.
Why it's made this way: Santa Ana sits at the foot of El Salvador's tallest volcano, whose fertile soil and altitude make the surrounding department one of the country's most celebrated coffee zones.
