Olvi was founded in 1878 partly as a public-health measure — Iisalmi's town leaders hoped a proper brewery would tempt people away from harsher home-distilled moonshine, and of the roughly 78 breweries operating in Finland back then, Olvi is the only one still in independent Finnish hands.
Olvi produces a full range of Finnish lagers and other beers from its original hometown brewery, known for approachable, easy-drinking pilsners alongside seasonal and specialty releases. It's a workhorse, everyday Finnish beer rather than a niche craft product.
