Mosel Riesling

Some Mosel vineyards are so steep — over 60 degrees in places — that workers still harvest by hand on cables and monorails because no tractor can climb them.
Riesling from the Mosel is a crisp, often lightly sweet white wine grown on steep slate slopes along the winding Mosel River in Rheinland-Pfalz. It's the region's everyday white, sipped chilled with river fish and light fare.
Why it's made this way: Riesling has been documented in the Mosel since the 15th century and now makes up the majority of the region's plantings, giving the valley a claim to some of the grape's oldest and most celebrated vineyards in the world.
