Vita Cola

Vita Cola was East Germany's homegrown answer to Coca-Cola, first bottled by Saxony's state brewery in 1958 with a secret fruit-and-herb formula — and after nearly vanishing when the Berlin Wall fell, a wave of Saxon nostalgia and pride brought it roaring back as a bestseller.
Vita Cola is a lightly spiced, less sweet cola with a distinct herbal and citrus edge that sets it apart from Western colas. It's drunk cold straight from the bottle or can, exactly like any other cola, but carries a flavor profile locals immediately recognize as different.
Why it's made this way: Developed and first bottled in Saxony's state-run breweries, Vita Cola became a point of regional pride after reunification, when Saxons rallied behind it as 'their' cola rather than switching to Coca-Cola or Pepsi.
