Wait — salt, not sugar?

Brewed tea simmered with milk and a pinch of salt, sometimes finished with a spoon of butter or fat. It's less a "drink" and more a warm, savory staple sipped throughout the day — closer to a light broth than the sweet milk tea most visitors expect.

Why it's made this way: On the steppe, salt and fat were valuable calories and electrolytes for a herding lifestyle — sugar wasn't the traditional priority, hydration and energy were.
