It's essentially the same dough as a Hungarian street classic, but Vojvodina's Serbian, Hungarian, and Slovak communities each swear by their own garlic-and-sour-cream topping.

A disc of yeasted potato dough is deep-fried until puffed and golden, then rubbed with garlic and topped with sour cream, grated cheese, or ketchup. It's sold hot from market stalls and lakeside food stands across Vojvodina.

Why it's made this way: Vojvodina's large ethnic-Hungarian population carried lángos across the border, and it took root as an everyday market and festival snack alongside Serbian specialties.
