Irn-Bru

For most of the 20th century, Scotland was one of the only countries on Earth where Coca-Cola wasn't the top-selling soft drink — this bright orange, girder-branded soda held that spot instead.
Irn-Bru is a fluorescent-orange, bubblegum-and-fruit-flavored carbonated soft drink invented in Scotland in 1901. It's sold everywhere from chip shops to pubs, and is a famous hangover cure the morning after a night of whisky.
Why it's made this way: The drink has outsold Coca-Cola in Scotland for long stretches since the 1940s, a feat almost no other country's domestic soda brand has managed against the global giant.
