Horchata de Morro

🥛
Photo coming soon

Its pale gray color comes from ground morro seeds, not rice — southern Honduras makes its horchata from the seeds of the jícaro tree instead of the grain most other countries use.

Honduran horchata blends ground morro (jícaro) seeds with sesame seeds, cacao, cinnamon, and other spices into a milky, nutty, pale-gray drink served cold over ice. It's especially associated with southern Honduras and is sold by street vendors and made in large batches for birthdays and gatherings.

Why it's made this way: Made from a tree the Maya considered sacred, this seed-based horchata sets Honduras apart from the rice-based versions found in neighboring countries.
