In parts of Silesia, no wedding is considered properly done without trays of this cake being handed out to guests as they leave.
A yeasted sheet cake topped with crumbly streusel, or filled with poppy seed, curd cheese, or apple, cut into squares and sold from bakery stalls at Silesian markets and church festivals.
Why it's made this way: It's a legacy of the region's German-influenced baking traditions, and its role at weddings and festivals has kept it a fixture of Silesian street and market stalls rather than just home kitchens.
